A small number of performers built substantial acting careers after beginning professionally as stunt performers, a background that gave them genuine physical credibility in action oriented roles that performers without such training often struggle to convincingly replicate, however carefully coached beforehand for a specific sequence, whatever the studio's own internal politics dictated at the time.
This transition rarely happens quickly, usually requiring years of additional acting training and smaller speaking roles before a performer with a stunt background is seriously considered for substantial leading work rather than simply the physical, largely uncredited work they originally trained to perform, long after the applause in the room has quietly faded.
